SINGING BOWLS
Culture, Spiritual Uses & How to Choose Yours
Singing bowls are beautiful instruments used for meditation, relaxation, yoga, sound baths and spiritual practice. When struck or played around the rim with a mallet, the bowl vibrates and creates rich tones and overtones that many people find calming and grounding.
CULTURE & HISTORY
Singing bowls are often called “Tibetan singing bowls,” although their history is more complex. Metal bowls have long histories throughout Himalayan and South Asian regions, including Nepal, Tibet and India.
Today, singing bowls combine traditional craftsmanship with modern meditation, yoga and sound practices around the world.

HOW TO USE YOUR SINGING BOWL
Place your bowl securely on its cushion or open palm.
Gently strike the outside edge with the mallet and allow the sound to fade naturally.
To make your bowl “sing,” gently press the mallet against the outside rim and slowly circle the bowl using steady pressure. As the vibration builds, the tone will become stronger.
For meditation, close your eyes, breathe slowly and focus your attention on the sound until it disappears.
For spiritual cleansing, play your bowl throughout a room while setting an intention for peace, protection or renewal.
CHOOSING YOUR SIZE
3 TO 4 INCH
Smaller bowls generally create brighter, higher tones.
Best for altars, travel, personal meditation and small spaces.
5 TO 6 INCH
A wonderful all around size with a balance of tone and vibration.
Best for beginners, meditation, yoga and everyday spiritual practice.
7 TO 8 INCH
Larger bowls generally create deeper tones and stronger vibrations.
Best for grounding, longer meditations and sound baths.
9 TO 12+ INCH
Large bowls can create deep, powerful and room filling vibrations.
Best for studios, group meditation, sound baths and experienced practitioners.
HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT ONE
Play several bowls before deciding.
Listen to the tone and notice how each one makes you feel. Some are bright and uplifting while others feel deep and grounding.
Two bowls of the same size can sound completely different.
You don’t necessarily need the largest or most expensive bowl.
✨ The right singing bowl may simply be the one you strike once and immediately want to hear again. ✨
